Family Fitness Challenge

I saw on a friend's blog that she and her sisters were doing a family fitness challenge and I thought it was a great idea. My sister and I were complaining to each other about the last few pounds we want to lose and I thought, Hey! Let's do the challenge! My friend sent me their plan and we kept it pretty much the same and invited the family to join. Our competition started on Monday. It's pretty fierce :) and should be a fun way for us to all get healthier.

30 points possible to earn each week. Each day you can earn a maximum of 30 points. You get 5 "cheat" points to use during the week. This means you can take a day off or if you have a day or two where life is crazy and you miss doing something, that's okay.

1 point: Getting at least 7 hours of sleep
Some of our contestants have babies who don't sleep through the night. That's totally fine. The biggest thing here is 7 hours between lights out and in bed to lights on and getting ready for the day. The night feedings/wakings/bathroom visits don't count against you :)

1 point: drinking at least 64 oz of water

1 point: exercising (like a real workout that you make time for--the specifics are up to you personally)
Some of our contestants are already in really good shape. Some already have a good exercise program. Others of us are just getting off our couches. It doesn't matter what level you are--just start doing some conscious exercising that you actually set aside time to do. We're not keeping track of what everyone is doing or how long they're doing it--that's personal and specific to your needs and lifestyle. But DO something.

1 point: keeping a food log (again, not being specific here--just do what is comfortable for you whether that is portions, calories or just writing down what you ate during the day--this is just to make us more aware of the food going in our mouths).
Some of us are doing Weight Watchers, some of us have calorie counters on our phones, some of us are not eating carbs, some of us are Vegans, some of us are dong the Paleo diet. Some of us aren't doing anything.  Again, this is unique to each contestant. The main point of this challenge is writing down what you eat so you can be more aware of the food you are eating. Eat what you want, but WRITE it down.

1 point: not eating 3 hours before bed 
There are two week long "extra challenges"
For these you can earn a total of 7 points per week--one point per day if you did it. The challenges are:
April 8-14
No sweets or treats or soda for the entire week.
May 6-12
Limiting "vegging" time with media to one hour each day for entire week

Everyone keeps track of their own points during the week and reports back to me by Sunday night. You can text, call, email, or message me on facebook. You don't have to tell me the different categories. Just write 30 points or 25 points or whatever points. Then Tim will put them in a spreadsheet and I will email and announce the weekly winner on Monday. I'll mail you your prize :)

The winner for each week's total amount of points gets a $5 gift card.
Winners of "extra" challenges will get a $10 gift card.
At the end of 10 weeks there will be a grand-prize winner for the total most points. That prize will be $100!

In the event of any tie, we will draw names or flip a coin. :)

It is fun...I am not going to FHE with the older singles tonight because I don't want to be tempted by the "no sweets" this wk because I don't have much will power :)
