A good day for Marcus

When I went to parent teacher conferences last week, Marcus's teacher handed me an invitation to an awards assembly to be held the following Thursday. "He doesn't know about it," she said. I kept it a secret, too, but we were all there yesterday afternoon when he was called up to receive the Citizenship Award. His face was surprised and then when he saw us waving frantically from the back, he got that kind of shy/happy smile. It was pretty wonderful and a proud mama moment, for sure.
Later that night, he went to piano and that same shy/happy smile was back on his face when I went to pick him up after his lessons. He'd won the candy jar guessing game! His 1,000 guess came in closest to the 1,020 actual amount. His piano teacher offers lots of incentives to practice and one of those incentives was getting to guess the amount of skittles in the candy jar. I actually knew about this little surprise as well. His teacher is a friend of mine and she called me a few weeks ago to let me know he'd won. She thought it was funny because his guesses were all over the place, 100, 1000, 10,000, a million. The highest anyone else guessed was 750. Silly Marcus. I guess it paid off this time.
