Lund: Day 1

On our first day in Lund, we started off the morning by swimming in the ditch that runs through the backyard. Jake turned the water on and we had a nice little current come through that kept the water clear and cool. It felt really nice on a hot day. There was only one minor incident. See that wire up at the top? That's an electric fence and Jake had thought he'd turned it off. Unfortunately, for Eli, he hadn't. Poor Eli got a bit of a shock when he grabbed hold of it. He was fine and playing a minute after we rescued him, so no worries, I guess he just wanted the full ranch experience.

Owen LOVED this mama cat and her kittens. He and Eli got pretty good and catching and holding them. I could tell right away that these kittens had received lots of kid love prior to our arrival. That was nice.

After naps, we decorated sugar cookies. Aub made all different colors of frosting and had bottles of sprinkles, so the kids had a really great time. She made a ton and they lasted our entire visit which was nice, too. I think green actually became the color only Owen was allowed to use--that's because he started making a habit of double dipping while frosting. Extra yummy!

The Carter Family owns a cattle ranch and these guys were pretty curious about us, too.

We ended our first day on the ranch with horse rides. None of my boys had ever ridden a horse before, so this was a really neat thing for them.

Do you like Marcus's snow boots? Those are his "cowboy boots." He insisted on packing them.

Tim spent some of his childhood on a farm/ranch and was excited to ride again. He took this horse for a run and was a little sore afterward. I think he makes quite the dashing cowboy.

Look how little Eli looks up there. He wasn't scared at all.

I do think he loved feeding the horse even more than he loved riding it. The horse was a gentle and as "kid friendly" as the kittens.
