I planted two yarrow plants last year and this year they got a bit leggy and messy looking, so I chopped them all the way down to the base of the plant again (no worries, they're hardy and have already bloomed quite happily again). I thought the yellow flowers were so pretty and I hated to throw them away, so I just shoved the huge bunches of flowers into black containers I had sitting around--I thought "Well, at least I'll be able to enjoy these yellow flowers until they die." I didn't water them or anything. What I had forgotten was that yarrow flowers dry so beautifully and so in my own bumbling accidental way, I had dried my yarrow flowers. Somewhere in the back of my mind I remembered seeing dried yarrow wreaths so I jumped online and did a little research and found out how to make my own. After a trip to JoAnn's for a grapevine wreath and some floral wire I got busy and created my own wreath. I love it.

After I caught the wreath-making-bug I headed over to my friend's house to harvest lavender (she has about a million lavender plants). I ran out before I could completely finish this wreath, so I'll need to go harvest some more. I also plan to make a smaller yarrow wreath for my cousin and a small lavender wreath for the lavender friend. That same friend gave me two lavender plants to plant in my own yard and so I figure that between them and the yarrow plants in the front, I should be able to create a few wreaths every year to give to the people I love.
