A look inside

On Thursday, we attended our first Marvelous Multiples class at the hospital. There were two other couples there. The first has no children and are expecting a boy and a girl. The other couple has a two-year-old daughter and are expecting two more girls--basically the opposite of us. Anyway, we got some good information and were able to watch a video that was made by National Geographic and that shows multiples developing in the womb. It was really interesting. I also learned that a day in a mother is equal to a week in the NICU, so I really want to keep these boys in me as long as possible. Later in the class (there are 4 sessions) we'll get a tour of the NICU. They only do this for parents who are expecting multiples. We'll also have some parents of twins come and speak to us. I'm looking forward to picking their brains. Honestly, the class was good, but a little frightening at the same time. We're still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that we will have two babies to take care of (as well as one active 3-year-old). Oh, and for anyone who is keeping track, I'm about 23 weeks along right now.

The first time I heard the "day in the mom equals one week less in the NICU" equation was when my water broke with Clara at 33 weeks. The neonatologist who came to talk to me told me that, so I tried really hard not to have any contractions, but I only made it two and a half days. But I guess if that's true, I still saved us some time! (At least enough time to have both of my steroid shots, which was good for Clara.)

Anyway, keep up the good work of holding your babies in for as long as possible. And if you ever want to talk to someone about life in the NICU (Clara was there for 18 days) please email me. I'm sure Jill is a great resource as well. You're doing a great job. I'm so happy for you!

You probably already know about this but there is a group called Mothers of Multiples. I know about this beacuse they put on a great garage sale here in WA. A whole gym is full of baby items and obviously lots of twin things. I was curious if they had a similar thing in Boise and it looks like they do. The web site is http://www.boisemom.org/ I enjoyed the pictures!

Like Rachel said, I have plenty of NICU experience...but we'll just hope and pray you won't need to hear any of it. I remember feeling really nervous after several conversations with drs. regarding multiple pregnancy risks. But I have to say, after Steven gave me a blessing, I never felt panicked again, even in the NICU. I just felt peace about everything. (not that I didn't shed some tears during the NICU stay though,) Anyway, you look great! Keep eating and keep those babies safe!

I don't have a lot of experience with the NICU but I have a little. It is hard not to be able to hold your baby and not know if your baby will be ok or not. It was a very emotional few days. So, keep those babies in as long as possible! You look great Katie, and I hope you feel ok.
