"This Old House"

Does anyone else remember that show? I couldn't help thinking of it today as I textured ceilings in my house. I HATE popcorn ceilings and I HATE all the yucky work of removing them and then texturing the ceiling underneath. Blah. But I do LOVE listening to books on tape as I work. It makes the time go by so much faster and I also LOVE that my cousin, Rachelle, let me borrow her long stick that attaches to a roller brush (I don't know what they're officially called) and it has made my retexturing job so much easier. I actually believe I could've done more today if the paint hadn't started thickening up on me. I'll have to get some paint thinner tomorrow (unless anyone has a better idea for how to thin out texture paint). I'm also thinking I'll paint the ceilings of the rooms I've already finished tomorrow.

The dreaded wallpaper still exists and I still hate it, but the ceilings are going to come first. I continue to hold onto a secret hope that when my mom comes up next week she'll be able to miraculously make it fall off my walls in one big whoosh.

Good luck Katie! When we removed wallpaper downstairs, we just used a waterbottle and sprayed the wallpaper with water and then riped it off. It came off pretty easy. Christine started using the wallpaper remover stuff, but in the end water worked just at well! she also had a little tool that helped to peel off the wallpaper. I can't wait to see the finished product when I get up there next!

Thanks for the good advice. I've given up on the wallpaper for now and am concentrating on the ceilings. I'll probably tackle that wall again next week. Too bad you and Christine aren't here to help! I hope everything is going well for you. We love you a lot and are excited to see you again.

Well, it has been a while since I have been on this blog site, but I can not tell everyone that with the help of Mary, Katie's friend, the wallpaper is off! Boy, what a wonderful job a steamer does!
