This is our Easter tree. I started the idea last year after I got my "holiday table" and saw it in Martha Stewart's magazine (I think?) This year, it totally rocked because we actually forced some branches from our Forsythia bush to bloom inside. The boys have loved watching the buds open into such beautiful yellow flowers. It actually led to a good family night discussion about the Resurrection because when my mom was here we did some yard work and she lopped off a few of the forsythia branches and said, "You should force these to bloom indoors." I liked the idea, but in the general cleanup, they got thrown in the pile of branches that I planned to have the tree pruners take the following weekend.
A couple days went by, and I pulled out the Easter decorations and realized we needed some branches. We dug around the refuse pile and found these forsythia branches. The buds were black and I wasn't sure it would work. We put them in water and hung the eggs and waited. A day or so later the buds turned green and then a few days after that we got these lovely flowers. So you see, a lovely way to talk about the Resurrection with 4-year-olds.
Sidenote: the night we talked about Resurrection, they played Resurrection in the tub. Not sure how, but oh my goodness. Kids are the best.
