Let me preface this post by saying that my three older boys are all potty trained and have been for some time. This is important to remember because the rest of this post will make you think that I am lying. I am not.
Today we sent Marcus off to second grade and went to visit a friend and her sweet new baby boy. He was cute and snuggly and we all loved him (especially Owen who wanted to keep touching his nose even though I kept saying "We don't touch faces." Apparently we do and I didn't get that memo. Luckily this baby is baby number six in his family and so he knows all about having his nose touched repeatedly by grubby little fingers. Sorry, Mary!
Anyway, my friend and I were having a nice visit and I was enjoying my baby snuggling time when I smelled something that reminded me an awful lot of poop. I checked Zach's diaper. Mary checked her other child's diaper and all looked rosy and yet the smell continued--in fact, it seemed to come and go with Eli. Huh, that's weird. Why would the stinky poop smell be coming from potty trained Eli? So strange. "Eli, did you have an accident?" No response. "Eli, come here. Can I check your underwear?" "No." Okay, kid. That question was more of a formality. What I really mean is Let's go to the bathroom right now and you will explain to me why there is poop in your underwear and not in the potty where it belongs. Which is exactly what we did.
Later, both boys used the bathroom to do their business (hooray, I put the fear back in them and we'll have no more accidents!) Except that as Owen was pulling his underwear back up he noticed it was wet and we both realized that he hadn't pulled it down far enough when he was doing his business. Awesome. Into the plastic bag (thanks again, Mary!) went both pairs of underwear and both boys finished up the play date going "commando" because I no longer carry around spare pairs of underwear--why should I? They are potty trained!!
And then . . .
Marcus came home from school and I welcomed him home with a smile and a hug and noticed that his shorts were wet. Huh? "Are your shorts wet?" I asked. "I peed." He answered. I'm pretty sure I laughed at this joke until I realized he was telling me the truth. What?! Turns out my son doesn't like to take time from recess to use the bathroom so by the end of the school day his bladder is pretty full to capacity and during computer class his teacher didn't see him frantically waving his hand and then it was too late and the deed was done. It was about 5 minutes until the end of the day so he just came home in his wet clothes. Didn't even tell his teacher. Can you believe it? Needless to say, he and I had a chat.
Little boys. Oh. My. Word.

Holy Hannah I was just dyin reading this silly boys
I couldn't help but laugh out loud, not at you of course, but at the thought processes of little boys. Potty training a boy is not something that I am looking forward to. :)
It happens to little girls too! I got a call from the school just the other day. Thanks for the visit, even with all the pooping (my kids included) it was awesome.
Sooo funny! I am sorry, but I feel your pain today. My THREE year old pooped her pants, and made a mess in the bathroom with it today. What the!? Kids are so amazing.
Your boys' father was EXACTLY the same way. He would be playing at a friend's house & then come running home. On the way he would have an accident. I asked him why he didn't just use his friend's bathroom. He said he didn't want to use any bathroom but his own. Or he would say he was too busy playing to notice he had to go until it was too late.
