Marcus and his best friend, Caleb on the first day. Don't you love their "totally boy" shirts? |
Marcus started second grade last week and is happy to be back in school. One night while we were eating dinner I asked him to tell us something about his class and he told me about the little buckets that hang on each one of their desks. His teacher sat the class down and read them a story about the little buckets and how important it is for each one of them to fill their classmates' buckets with kind words and thoughts. After she explained the buckets to them she asked them each to write a note to someone in the class. At this point in his story I jumped in and said, "So, did you write a note to Caleb?" Caleb is his very best friend and this year they are in the same class (happy day!) and Marcus said, "Nope. I wrote a note to Trevor." "Trevor?" I asked, "Who is he?" Marcus replied, "He's a new kid at my school. I wrote him a note that said welcome to our school and then I put it in his bucket when he wasn't looking."
A note to Marcus
Marcus,
I love that you are smart.
I love that you are funny.
I love your blue eyes and your gap toothed smile.
But most importantly, I love that you are kind.
Love,
Mom
