We get together with two of my cousins and their families once a month for dinner, chatting, and general chaos (between our three families we have 11 children with another due to arrive in May). We rotate hosting it at our houses and trade off on who is in charge of the main course, salad, and dessert. Yesterday was our turn to host (which meant I was in charge of the main course) and P and M were in charge of dessert. M always makes something yummy and last night looked like it wasn't going to disappoint. She'd brought a lemon cake with powdered sugar frosting drizzled all over. It looked tasty and the kids could not wait to have a go at it :)
M got everyone a piece and from across the room I heard Marcus say, "This is disgusting!" I was immediately horrified at his blatant display of rudeness and told him so. He just said it again, "This tastes disgusting." Ughh. This time I joked to P and M that I guess we knew what our family night lesson was going to be about: manners. They just chuckled and said it was okay, but still, I was cringing internally at how rude Marcus was being.
And then I took a bite.
Yuck.
It was really salty and not yummy at all. I choked down my bite (quietly, I might add) and looked up to see P and M laughing at me. "April Fools!" they shouted. Turns out they'd put 3 tablespoons of salt into that lovely cake as a trick. P laughed as he went to the car to retrieve the real cake (which was yummy) and we all had a good chuckle about Marcus's reaction and our reaction to him.
Well played, P and M. Well played, indeed.

Haaaaaaa that's great
HA HA HA! I can imagine you trying to keep your composure over that. That's awesome.
Hilarious! I wish I lived closer to join in the cousin fun!
You have taught your children to be honest, so at least he didn't lie about what he thought of the cake. The tactful manners will come eventually :)
