Marcus's school mascot is the Raptor (bird, not dinosaur) and there happen to be several Raptors in a canyon near Kuna, Idaho (45 min from our house). A few weekends ago was the prime time to go and see the birds so we drove out to Dedication Point, a beautiful lookout point over the Snake River and this amazing canyon. We watched the birds for awhile and felt very hawk-like ourselves as we watched Owen and Eli to make sure they didn't climb over the guard wall (that was a little short for my taste). We spotted this lizard on the wall and he was WAY more interesting than the birds. There were some other boys there, too, and you should have seen how entranced all these boys were with this lizard. It was hilarious.
After watching the birds (and more importantly, the lizard) for awhile, we enjoyed a picnic lunch and ran into some other people who told us about Swan Falls Power Plant just ten or so minutes away. Usually, you have to call ahead and set up an appointment to view the plant, but that day they were holding an open house. Of course, we couldn't resist.
Tim and Marcus were brave enough to go down these stairs to see some kind of pump or something. When they came back Marcus said, "Dad was scared, he took forever to go down the stairs." Tim smiled and mumbled, "No, it's called being polite." (Notice pic above)
After touring the inside of the power plant, we headed outside onto this path that led around the building and then across the dam itself.
Boys can't walk past water without throwing rocks in it--even the older boys :)
Owen is a collector and these rocks seemed to be especially worth holding onto until he smashed his finger when he kept banging them together.
There's the power plant and the dam that we got to walk across. It was very cool!
The little ones loved looking at the loud white water rushing out. Despite the fence, my hawk-like tendencies did reemerge. Side note: don't you love the muscle shirts? I think they are hilarious.
The building was built in the early 19oo's and despite it's very practical purposes, I found it quite beautiful.
The mighty Snake! During our adventure, Marcus turned to me and said, "Mom, this is a good Saturday." I couldn't agree more. I love finding these little places around our home that we can explore and I love doing it with my boys. And I love when it's all free :)

I can't believe you took your kids on a dam walk. You know I couldn't resist. Love you all. Mom
Hilarious, Mom. They really enjoyed the dam water, the dam rocks, and the dam sticks. It was a great dam day :)
I love the comments as much as I did the pics. You guys are wonderful--thanks for the laugh and seeing how much fun the family had at the dam.
And, yes, the boys look very cute in their muscle shirts.
