Owen

Let's talk about Owen today, shall we? He is hilarious. We call him Hambone because he is such a ham--so funny. He will really try and do silly dance moves or try for the splits or jump and roll and tumble just to get a laugh. He has a cheesy little grin and a deep little chuckle. He has a running joke that comes up every day and that he still finds absolutely hilarious. Tim will be at work and Owen will find me and say, "Daddy home?" in this joking little voice and with a sneaky smile. I'll reply, "No, Daddy's at work." and then he'll laugh and laugh because of course he knew that daddy was at work but isn't it funny to tease that daddy is home? We do that a few times every day. It's cute to see his little sense of humor blossoming.
He is a very strong and physical little boy--all about climbing and chasing and knocking into things. He's pretty rugged and doesn't cry too easily if he gets hurt, just whines a bit and finds me to give his ouch a kiss (mommy's magic kisses heal all ouchies at our house and probably yours as well).
His language is slowly coming along but he is still not the best with words. He also has his turn to say the prayer each night or at meals and his prayers usually just echo the last syllable of the phrase we've just said for him to repeat. He's doing better than he was just 5 months ago when I don't think I could even write 5 words that he could say, now he can say many many more. This has helped get rid of the frustrated tantrums he used to be famous for throwing. He is so pleasant and easy going now--I'm so glad he's finally discovering language and the ability to communicate with us.
Owen loves the fridge. This is my biggest source of frustration with him right now. For the past two days, while I have been in the shower, Owen has gotten into the fridge and wreaked some sort of havoc. On day one, he got out my big container of Costco strawberries and systematically took a bite out of each one and left them all over the floor. On day 2, he got the pitcher of juice out and a cup and tried to pour himself a glass in the living room. Instead, he dumped the juice all over the ottoman and then tried to hide the pitcher in his bed. On my to-do-list today is to find a lock for my fridge. Ughh!
Owen thinks he is a big boy and he loves to play with Marcus's friends when they come over. Yesterday, we had a friend named Parker come play and I'm pretty sure that he is Owen's hero, now. Owen followed him around EVERYWHERE and was in absolute heaven. Lucky for us, Parker is an only child and loved the attention and adoration he was receiving from our enamored 2-year-old :)
He is a champion sleeper.
He loves to wrestle with Tim every night before bed.
He gives good hugs and sweet kisses.
He loves trucks and horses and breaking Marcus's block towers.
He can already eat like a teenage boy. He has 2-3 bowls (toddler size) of cereal in the morning along with toast and milk. He loves pancakes and waffles and can eat several of those, too. I think breakfast might be his favorite meal of the day. He also really loves cheese. The other day I bought a small bag of Easter shortbread cookies and he totally binged on them while I was shopping--now he refuses to eat any more.
Overall, right now he has his moments of mischief but he is a pretty easygoing little guy who makes us smile and laugh. We love him very much.
