Messy Faces: rice cereal for the babes and ice cream for the big brother
I couldn't wait to start Marcus on solids, so when he was 4 months old EXACTLY we sat him down and gave him rice cereal. With the twins I have been less than eager to enter the world of high chairs, bibs, and general messiness. Nursing has just been so great with these guys and so easy (unlike Marcus which is probably another reason why I was so eager to move on to the next stage). It feels like with Marcus I was always looking forward to the next stage, the next new trick. I'd sit down with the What to Expect the First Year book and read ahead to the next month--anticipating all the things he'd soon be doing. With the twins, though, I haven't even cracked that book open and I feel so much more relaxed about things. I don't feel a sense of hurried eagerness to get to the next stage--probably because with each stage my newborns turn into babies who turn into toddlers then preschoolers and so forth.
Dr. C said to get them eating rice cereal by at least six months, so about two weeks ago we introduced the exciting world of solids (if watered down rice cereal can in fact be considered a solid) and the boys were more than ready and willing. We are still pretty casual about it, but they have some at least once a day if not twice, more for practice than for any kind of real nutritional value. It's so funny to see them try to grab the spoon from me and it's funny to watch their little tongues try to figure out how to swallow this new texture in their mouths.
You think rice cereal is good? Just wait until you get to taste pureed green beans, boys. You won't know what hit you.

Katie, I love the pics! I can't even believe you boys are that old! They are adorable, and I'm so glad that things with nursing are going so well. We're getting the hang of things and more importantly the boys are gaining weight very well, so as soon as we iron out a few wrinkles, we'll be good. I wish we lived closer so all the boys could hang out together.
What very happy boys...it must be "food" in general that makes them so happy!
Your pictures on your new camera are great, very crisp & clear.
These are my some of my favorite pictures I have seen. They all have great expressions! Are you guys going to make the family reunion this year? Glad to see you are ejoying your new camera!
