Okay, well, two weeks and one day later but I have twins now so cut me some slack :) I can't believe that the past two weeks have gone, but I am so glad that they have. Those were some rewarding, but incredibly difficult weeks for me. Another few experiences that taught me that I am strong and can do hard things. And again, I felt the love and presence of a Heavenly Father who knows me perfectly and I was able to see the love and tender mercy amidst some trying times. I think the greatest blessing to come out of those weeks will be this phrase, "Well, having twins is difficult but at least one isn't in the NICU," or "Having a 3-year-old who is suddenly not sleeping well is crappy, but at least I don't have a painful uterine infection!" Oh, gracious.
Some of you may be wondering how the whole nursing thing is going, well let me tell you . . . it is actually going surprisingly great at this exact moment which is to say that I am now going to rush off and knock on wood. I am tandem nursing (nursing both babies at the same time) and I have them on the same schedule. I am also pumping a bit in the morning for a baby boy snack or for the freezer supply that I am slowly stocking. Each boy gets one "boog" (Marcus's term, not mine) per feeding and then at the next feeding I switch sides on them. It keeps things exciting around here. They eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I am SOOO grateful that the whole nursing thing is working because it was my biggest concern and I don't think our bank account could handle formula for two babies. We were at the doctor's today and both boys weigh more than their birth weight (which is where they want 2 week old babies). What a relief. Owen is 7. 9 and Eli is 6.9
Here are some quick fun facts about Owen:
He is my little piglet. He LOVES to eat and when he hears my voice he immediately starts searching for the food source. The kid was born to nurse and is about a pound bigger than his little brother. Owen loves to blow bubbles and he has got a pair of lungs on him (we hear these lovely lungs when he is hungry). He is paler than his brother (sorry, Owen) and is our sweet little boy. We love Owen!
Here are some quick fun facts about Eli:
Eli is very mellow. He will whimper when he is sad or hungry, but I don't think I've ever heard him full blown scream. He always looks slightly concerned about things (he has this little furrow in his brow). We are still working on reassuring him that the world is in fact a nice place to be. He sleeps with his mouth open and is darker in coloring than his brother. I think he looks like my brother Gary when he was a baby. We love Eli!

I"m glad the whole nursing thing is working out, and i'm surprised you're posting as often as you are. You're so positive and able to find something to be happy about. Keep us posted if at all possible and stay tuned to my blog...
So good to hear that the boys are nursing well. That is honestly one of the biggest hurdles...well it was for me! So funny, we have one that is a little more mellow than the other too, and he has been from day one! The way you described your two little ones, their individual personalities, is just how I would describe mine two boys! Crazy!
Glad you are feeling better and hooray for getting through the first two weeks. That right there is reason to celebrate! We've been thinking about you guys so much. I want to help in any way that I can. Can I bring you dinner at least???
That's awesome that nursing is working out. Kudos to you for making it happen!
So glad to hear everything all in all is going so well. Hope the boys continue to be good eaters for you! I can't blame Eli for being a little confused about this world. It's hard to convince him it's nice when he's had to deal with those mean NICU nurses poking him and putting sticky monitors on him! :) Oh and don't forget the dreaded thermometer in the armpit. Sheesh! Those nurses!! :)
You are doing a great job for your 3 boys. Remember to take care of yourself too. Love ya lots.
I can't even imagine nursing two babies! By the same token, I kind of can't imagine NOT nursing, especially from a financial standpoint. Yay for you and working it out!
They are so adorable. Glad to hear that they are doing well. I love Marcus's word boog! He is a crack up. I bet he loves the new excitement!
You awesome woman, I feel like I'm doing nothing but nursing sometime, I guess I shouldn't complain, you've got double that! It's funny the things our kids get to see and learn facts about with their "Why" questions. I'm so glad its all gone well for you.
Wow, good for you Katie. What a woman you are! I was dying to know how nursing was going with your little twinners (I'm a lactation counselor...) and was so pleased that to hear that all has gone well for you. make sure you find a minute for you too:)
Hi Katie! I saw your blog link on Mary's blog, so I thought I'd stop by. Congratulations on the new beautiful additions to your family!
