Finally!!!
Once upon at time I decided Marcus was ready to be potty trained. I bought all the stuff that goes along with this big event and a couple of days later we were both so frustrated with each other that we simply could not go on. Then a month or so after that, I borrowed a book about potty training in 3 days and I gave that a shot. Again, we had to stop because we were both going insane. When I found out we were having twins, I began to feel this sense of pressure again but I held off. Marcus turned three and I thought, "You know what? I'm just going to ease us into this. No cold turkey or anything. We'll go slow." I began putting him in underwear (he calls them "ungawear") after his nap/quiet time, and I began giving him a choice about peeing in the toilet or outside on the grass (the joys of being a boy) and you know what? He decided that he was okay with all of this and he stopped having accidents and began peeing like a big boy. Now, he wears underwear all day except during nap/quiet time and at night. We haven't tackled the whole pooping thing yet (he routinely takes care of that business in the privacy of his room during quiet time, but hey, we're just going to take it slow. The best is how happy and proud of himself he is. It just makes me so thrilled. Yesterday, we took a day trip and there were NO ACCIDENTS and he peed in a public restroom and it was all great. I am just so proud of my little guy.

My brother was at least three before he was potty trained, which seemed odd at the time to my mom because she had potty trained five girls in much less time. I think boys just take longer. The thing that did it for my brother was when my dad showed him how to "shoot" cheerios in the toilet. :) Congratulations on your little successes!
That is awesome. What is the name of the book you read. CJ has some interest and will tell us everytime after he gone. Tell Marcus we think he is such a big boy!
Major accomplishment. Especially that you both lived through it. I think potty training is right up there with labor as far as being one of the most painful things in life.
I'm SOOOOO jealous. Maddie HATES even talking about the potty. Sometimes I swear it will never happen.
AWESOME. That is a very good feeling. I cracked up at the part about peeing in the toilet or on the lawn...
timid tripper: Yes, we'd considered the "shooting" idea when he was only wanting to go on the grass, now he's okay with the toilet too. I still might use the idea for target practice . . .
tammy: It was something my friend bought off the internet called "potty training in 3 days." She swore by it, but it didn't really work for us because basically the two of you have to be glued at the hip for 3 days and really, who has time for that? The core ideas were good, though, and certainly influenced my way of thinking with Marcus and the whole potty training experience.
aub: I know!!! It still feels like Christmas to me whenever he goes to the bathroom.
melissa: That is EXACTLY how Marcus was, so I'd say just wait a bit or ease into like we did where she just wears underwear a few hours a day when you guys are usually at home anyway. Then I'd just occasionally ask Marcus, "Are you dry?" and he'd have to feel his underwear and tell me yes or no. I didn't hound him about it like I had before and for us that seemed to work.
lisa: it is nice that their plumbing makes that alternative possible :)
Awesome! What a relief to have him potty trained. Now you will only have to change two diapers!
