The raspberry thief

Our raspberries have been producing delicious yumminess (yes, it is a word--at least in my vocabulary) for a few weeks now, and it has been delightful. Want a raspberry milkshake? Coming right up. Would you like some fresh berries on your bran flakes? Consider it done. Just want to go in the back yard and eat right off the bush to your heart's content? Have at it.

But now I want to make freezer jam and this means I need a pretty good sized bowl of raspberries, so a few days ago I headed out in the morning with Marcus and picked quite a lot of raspberries (not quite enough which meant I'd need at least another day or so's worth of picking) but I was still pleased with the morning's harvest.

Apparently, so was Marcus.

Later that evening things got busy. I was on the phone, making dinner, scrambling to head out to go visiting teaching and suddenly I noticed something. The raspberry bowl was empty. The bowl that I had set on the counter and supposedly out of reach had been pillaged. No. More. Raspberries. At first I thought Tim had washed them and put them in the fridge. Nope. In slow motion we turned to look at Marcus and sure enough . . . the evidence was all over his face. My son, the raspberry thief.

My kids would have done the same exact thing! I'm not hoping to ever make jam, because they have so much fun picking and eating raspberries right off the bush. We're just going to settle for only strawberry jam around here. :)

I am jellous of your rasberries! We are actually going to go to a farm and pick rasberries this week. However we do have a lot of blackberries around here, not in our yard but we know places we can go and pick for free so we are excited about that. By the way I have your bag for your pack-n-play so I just need to get your address sometime so I can mail it to you.

This reminds me of Blueberries for Sal. At least there were no bears involved. :)

I think Peter and Marcus have the same problem. Mike takes him outside every day to pick raspberries so I don't even have enough for a milkshake let alone freezer jam! Oh well, I guess they aren't being wasted, right?

At least he is eating healthy foods! And he probably had a big smile on his face...
