Because we bought a house we decided we weren't going to do any big family vacation this year. In the past we've gone to San Francisco, Seattle, and Coeur D'Alene. However, we did decide to attend the Gifford Family Reunion (Tim's mom's family) because it was only about 3 hours away, and I decided we were going to make the absolute most of this trip and see as much as we could along the way. The reunion was held at the May Family Ranch just outside of Clayton, Idaho. It was a beautiful place and we had a lot of fun seeing everyone and eating way too much. I participated in the archery competition (sorry, no pictures) and Tim and I teamed up for the couple's sack race (sadly, we lost). I even won a cookbook at BINGO. Good times. Unfortunately the nights were rather exciting because a bunch of us all slept in the bunkhouse and that made for a lot of kids and a lot of tears. Chalk it up to an experience I guess. Marcus had a wonderful time playing with cousins he didn't even know he had and Tim and I had fun talking to all Tim's relatives. Oh, and Tim got to go golfing with the guys so that was fun for him. He mentioned that his game was a lot better with Grandpa's "expensive" clubs. All in good time, honey, all in good time.
We drove up with Ann and KayLyn and they let me sit in the front because I'm tall. AND they entertained Marcus. A million thank you's to both of them. It made the drive so much nicer. Anyway, we stopped first in Idaho City. It's a fun little town to walk around and get the mining feel. Then we stopped at Redfish Lake (see pictures below), then the reunion (pictures below), and then on the way home we visited a ghost town where the scariest thing was the cows that were running on the road (I thought they might veer off and trample us AND there was a bull), we also stopped at some big mining dredge that wrecked the beautiful river. That was a dumb stop because my guidebook said the tours were free but then when we got there they said there was a charge of $4 and it was a self-guided tour and even after we told them about the guidebook they only offered to let us in for $2. Lame. Our next stop was beautiful Ketchum and Sun Valley--vacation place to the stars and starlets. No, we didn't see anyone famous but we did see huge houses and Hemingway's Memorial.
All in all, a wonderful vacation.

I love Seattle, San Francisco and Coeur D'Alene!
Are we twins separated at birth?
I'm beginning to think that might be a definite possibility. It'll be fun to see you again at the wedding. It'll really be like we're meeting for the first time since it's been a LONG time since the Viking Crier.
It seems like you guys had a lot of fun. My mom's family is having a family reunion this summer too and they are staying in cabins--probably like your reunion. I would hate(!) sleeping in a cabin, that isn't much more than a room with some bunk-beds, with my boys. You are brave.
It was a fun reunion, the first night was rough but the second night was much better in the crying dept. And the food was delicious but way too much! It was fun traveling w/Marcus in the back seat, he is such a cutie and a ham...he did very well.
I like the pics from your vacation. My friend from Seward is a Gifford from Idaho. Small world!
