We are finally back online. It is a glorious thing to be able to check my e-mails and your blogs again. I missed you. I have so much to write about and so many pictures to share, but I won't try to do it all in this post. I'll just post every day for a little while so that you may experience what it was to be Katie these past few weeks. I'm sure you're excited for that little adventure :)

The first thing we set about doing after the house was ours was
scraping popcorn ceilings. It is a messy terrible job and we will probably die three years sooner because we have breathed in asbestos. But people, it was worth it! Tim and his dad scraped Marcus's room and then Tim scraped the hallways, the family room, and the front room. He would have done our bedroom and the spare bedroom too, but I stopped him. Why? Because I textured and painted all the ceilings he scraped and I would rather have clawed my own eyes out than done another room.

While Tim was scraping I also went to work on the lovely wallpaper from hell. Ann will agree with me on this one because she and I spent an entire afternoon trying to peel it off with all manner of contraptions. We only managed a small area for all our efforts and bleeding fingertips.
Then, my friend Mary came over and politely said, "You should just rent a steamer. They work really well." I did and it did. Mary is now Saint Mary of Boise. Bless her.

My mom came up to help me paint. For those of you who may not know this, she is a master painter. I chose most of my colors from the
Early Spring Pottery Barn Catalog (I used Grecian Green for the bedroom and Cornsilk for the halls and family room). Lovely Benjamin Moore colors that I then took to Walmart where they concocted them for me at half the price. Tim and various helpers put in our
Shaw laminate floor and Darrin (our floor guy) put in our lovely
Mohawk carpet. It is sheer heaven to walk upon--like soft clouds on a spring morning.

I'm still unpacking and settling in. This is very difficult to do with Marcus around. My walls are still bare and my book shelves are messy, but that will all come with time. Thank goodness for the spare room that has become the catch all spot. "Hum, where should I put this? I don't know, how about the spare room for now!"

I'm glad you're finally back and your house looks great. I've caught the paint bug again and was just about to go to PotteryBarn.com for color ideas.
I love your descriptions of everything. You must have a degree in English!! I am excited to see your house in person. You guys are amazing.
I love the house! I have decided to paint a mural in Will and Isaac's room but I am nervous to do it because I'm worried Will is going to think it a great idea and one day I'll come into his room to see him with a paintbrush and paints. Any ideas? Also, I read Cold Sassy Tree in 11th grade and loved it. I hope you like it too.
Aub: Let me know what color you choose. Oh, and what room are you looking to paint next? I just painted the two bedrooms white because I couldn't decide but knew I wanted to get rid of the "mint green" and "lovely lilac."
Alecia: Ha ha. You're always welcome. Marcus misses you already.
Adrianne: Wow, a mural. That sounds awesome. I wish you all the best with that. We actually had a little girl who wanted to help, so we let her paint the back of the closet. She loved it and I don't mind because, hey, it's the back of a closet :)
You should be very proud of yourselves and we were very glad to be of help to you in the "remodeling". I can't wait to get over there again soon.
