Family Vacation

When Tim and I got married we decided that we wanted to take a family vacation every summer. I usually do the planning and when we get there Tim is the map guy and figures out transportation stuff. Our system seems to be working pretty well so far (other than the moments when we are walking lost through a city in the heat and then we tend to yell a bit).

Anyway, we've been to San Francisco and Seattle, but last summer was a bit of a vacation bust what with Marcus being born and all. Sorry, I am not one of those women who likes to travel and have "fun" after just giving birth. No way.

Well, this summer was scheduled to be a bit of a bust too because of Tim's internship, but then he discovered that he'd have one week between the intership ending and school starting, so I immediately thought, "Vacation time!" My first thought was Yellowstone, but apparently everyone else planned their Yellowstone trips WAY in advance and there was not a single place of lodging available anywhere. Granted, our options were already rather limited because of our starving student budget and yes, we could've camped, but here's the truth, I'm not a big camper especially with a baby. Sorry.

So, it was back to the drawing board and then I had a fabulous idea . . . northern Idaho. I've never been there and I always hear about how beautiful it is, so I got online and found us this tiny little cabin for a reasonable rate in Coeur d'Alene and we'll be in the beautiful mountains and I am very very happy. We'll take the longer drive up through the mountains and see McCall and Lewiston and Moscow, so I can finally see the University of Idaho which Breanne always said was a beautiful school with a lovely campus (red brick etc.) Anyway, I'm excited. Now we just need to find one of those backpack things for Marcus so that we can go hiking.

Sorry that I'm not closer, you could totally use our backpack. It even has a backpack that zips onto the back of where the kid sits. It's not going to be in use for awhile.
Your vacation sounds like so much fun, I'm excited to see the pictures! I think Ed and I need to officially commit to doing that. We count our vacations as visiting family or moving across the country. Nice and all, but not the same.

Yeah, we thought about going down to Utah to see family, but I just really like to have one vacation a year where it's just us.

I love your pictures. It looks like you had a wonderful time with your family. My mom will be here this weekend for my birthday. It'll be really nice to be spoiled.

good choice on the not camping thing. we just went this weekend, and let's just say that camping with an active baby, but not yet toddler, is more of a nightmare than a relaxing vacation. you'll love the cabin idea much more.

I totally want to go there! You'll have to post on the condition of the cabin after you get back.

I've heard cour d'alene (sp?) is beautiful (just watch out for the skin heads) and I love hiking in cooler areas of course. Not California scrub brush where there's not a hint of a breeze. Anyway, I'm sure it will be a great trip. I can't wait to hear about it.
