Sorry folks, no pictures this time. This entry is all about the upcoming Quarterly Enrichment meeting. Yep, this is one of the big ones that come once a fair quarter and we're in a planning fever! We've got quite the blend of age groups in my ward, so we decided to have a nice meeting on Preserving Memories through different journals and Life Histories. We figure this will help the older sisters who are compiling their own histories and the younger sisters who are trying to preserve the day by day stuff of their babies/kids.
Here's the plan: We have one sister who will open up the evening with a lesson based on two talks about the subject and she will be followed by three sisters who will talk about a) life histories b)scrapbooking c)the world of digital and the last sister will be the catch all and will talk about all the kinds of journals a person can keep. My hope is that the sisters won't leave feeling overwhelmed, rather that they will leave thinking that maybe one of these many ideas we presented them will be a nice fit for their own record keeping. Oh, and they'll leave with one of the nifty journal jars we're putting together too. I'll let you know how it all turns out. And yes, there will be food. Can you really have an activity without food? Not on my watch!
As you can tell, I've been thinking about this stuff a lot. The thing is, I've been really gaining my own personal testimony about this whole subject. I've been reading my Grandpa's history and it is really interesting. I'm really enjoying the pictures and the stories. There's been some stuff going on lately and reading his history has really helped me put things into perspective. I had some bad news and Tim was gone and I just felt yucky, so I started reading this history and I felt better. I guess I just thought to myself that this bad stuff will one day be a page or a paragraph in my history just like the bad things in my grandpa's book. Things work out.

Sounds like fun! Taylor MacDonald (I think is his name) lives in Utah Valley and does Education Week at BYU on writing a family history and things like that and it is really amazing how much info you can get in an hour or two hour class. He came to an enrichment once.
I highly recommend him if you ever go to education week.
It sounds great Katie. I read my great grandfathers history and it was very cool to learn about him and his family. I really, really think that journals are essential. I hope it goes well. Our ward is a little different so I don't know that we will have an enrichment.
Ann- Your activity sounds like a lot of fun. Do you have a summer hat picked out? Maybe Marcus and I will have to "drop in". I'm sure I could find a summer dress for him somewhere . . .
Jen-Education Week is one of the many things I miss about being close to BYU. That's cool that you had an expert speak at your Enrichment. We'll see how ours goes.
Adrianne-No Enrichment? How can this be? Things are different now (fewer Enrichment nights) but you still must have a few. It sure is strange how things are "different" when you get out of Utah Valley (specifically a BYU student ward). I'd love to hear the tales I'm sure you could tell :) I know that I could sure tell you a few (especially from our days on our ward activities committee.) Sheesh!
