He may not be able to talk yet, but he already knows how to talk back
We have a plant that sits in a basket on the floor of our living room and it is one of Marcus's favorite things in the world. Many times I have been in the kitchen while he was playing with his toys in the living room and things have suddenly gone eerily quiet. This almost always means that he has found the plant. Lately, I've watched him crawl up to the plant and I say, "Marcus, no. We don't eat the plant." I know he understands me because he stops (for the moment anyway) and lets out this elaborate garble of sounds which probably translates into, "Whatever, mom. I'll find a way. Just you wait." Oh and also, "Don't tell me no." It's funny how he is still so young and yet he definitely has an understanding of what's going on. What in the world am I going to do when he can really talk?

I'm jealous that you can be in one room doing something and that Marcus can be in the other playing with toys. Even at 14 months Will doesn't do that very often. He will play with toys by himself if I am in the room and otherwise he wants to be wherever I am.
It's funny you should mention shadows (I mean children). Marcus had a walker for a little while and my ankles have never been more bruised. He'd follow me around everywhere and run right into me. Good times.
